Morzine, originally a small farming village, has evolved into a premier ski destination while retaining its authentic character. Situated in the vast Portes du Soleil ski area, Morzine offers access to over 600 kilometers of interconnected slopes for seasonaires. Nestled in the heart of the French Alps, Morzine offers the chance to create memories to last a lifetime.
Skiing Experience
Morzine sits right in the heart of some diverse and exciting skiing. Morzine offers a diverse range of runs that cater to all abilities. If it’s your first time on skis then Morzine offers a really good range of slopes which allow you to hone your skills. Start off in the learning areas above Pleney gondola and you’ll quickly find yourself progressing to the groomers of Les Freux. Once you start building those skills then you might look for some more difficult terrain – be sure to check out the Nyon Freeride bowl, this offers some exciting steeps as well as some of the best tree skiing you can experience in the alps. Morzine really caters to everyone.
The only downside of Morzine is its altitude. At only 950m it’s one of the lower resorts in the alps. However, the pistères do an amazing job of making sure you always have a great time. Morzine also benefits from its direct links to Avoriaz which really gives you that snow security that you want. Morzine is well connected to the entire portes du soliel which offers fantastic skiing as well as amazing views. Les Portes Du Soliel actually translates to the gates of the sun which sums up the climate. Often you’re spoiled with the most magnificent sunsets and views as you explore the quaint villages scattered across the area.
But most of all, Morzine benefits from its skiing community – with it being a majority English speaking village its super easy to integrate into the community. You’ll be welcomed with open arms and you get to enjoy some of the best skiing in France whilst creating lifelong friends and really feeling like you’re part of the Morzine family.
Beyond the Slopes
Morzine is an expansive area with a variety of places to see and visit. It’s large scale is both an asset and a nuisance at times – the large scale of the resort means that there are a tonne of great spots to go and explore including some incredible scenery up by lake Montriond which is a must see. However, Morzine’s size can also be a pain due to its lack of significant connections – there is a free bus which runs until 8pm which is great but getting to your accommodation after Après can often be a chore. The staff housing can often vary in terms of locations, you really get a good set of options. A lot of the companies staff accommodations are located in the centre of town but there are options further out of town which offer more space and even your own room if you’re lucky.
Morzine prides itself on its Après with bars like Dixie’s and Cafe Chaud which offer live music and dj sets late into the night. There are also a tonne of great places to hang out in Morzine – Solide and satellite are two particular favourites which offer great food and drinks right in the heart of town. Morzine also offers a great range of non-skiing based activities with the ice skating rink being one of the highlights, grab some friends and go give skating a go, just be careful not to fall – it’s not as soft as snow! There are some great bars located on the bottom of Pleney which often do live music performances with a great vibe straight after skiing. Tremplin bar is probably the most famous bar in Morzine showcasing some of the best talent the Portes Du Soleil has to offer. Make sure to get used to dancing in ski boots as it’s a very necessary skill to learn in this town. Overall Morzine offers so much fun, even though it is one of the lower resorts the locals have done a great job of providing entertainment in all shapes and sizes.
