Laurent De Martin: A New Chapter in Skiing

Laurent De Martin began skiing at three and fell in love with freeskiing by twelve. His passion led him to competition and film production, forging incredible connections with his Swiss Freeski teammates and global friends through Level 1. Among these connections was filmmaker Titouan Bessire, with whom he created the films “From Switzerland With Love” and “Simply.” After eight seasons of professional film skiing, the mental toll prompted De Martin to step back in 2022, not from skiing itself, but from the intense demands of film projects.

Despite countless days on the slopes with friends, the unbridled love he once felt for the sport eluded him. He found himself lost, his motivation fluctuating. The absence of a mission-oriented crew made him question his passion for skiing.

The Day That Changed Everything

A single day shattered De Martin’s perspective. Filming under poor conditions, De Martin triggered an avalanche, resulting in Mathieu Maynadier suffering four broken ribs. De Martin narrowly escaped by skiing off a 20-meter cliff, and a massive rock landed where he had been just moments before. This near-death experience forced him to reconsider his relationship with skiing.

In the aftermath, De Martin was adrift, questioning his future in skiing. Friends, especially Sampo Vallotton, played a crucial role in his recovery. Vallotton encouraged him to return to the slopes, leading to some rejuvenating days in the park. This experience rekindled De Martin’s love for skiing, lifting the mental fog. He resolved to make every day in the mountains count.

It’s about enjoying the sport without the pressure of being the best. Simply. seeks to inspire people to push their limits in a non-competitive way. It’s not about nostalgia; it’s about choosing a different path—a path Simply. wants to share with you.

Simply. skis are designed for creative rides and good memories. They are intuitive and adaptive, limited only by the rider’s mindset. Developed through a process that rethinks the ski experience, Simply. skis incorporate meaningful elements inspired by surfing. Breaking away from traditional symmetrical designs, Simply. skis feature an edgy nose and a distinct fishtail, reflecting a connection to snowboarding and allowing the skis to feel like an extension of the rider.

In essence, Laurent De Martin and Simply. Recreation Club are not just shaping skis—they are shaping a movement. It’s a call to embrace the pure joy of skiing, to create unforgettable moments, and to be part of a community that values both passion and responsibility. This new chapter for De Martin is not just about skiing; it’s about redefining what it means to love the sport.
