Morgins is a fairly small resort located on the other side of Chatel. It’s a very pretty resort with some amazing buildings shaped into the landscape. Morgins is also one of the most sun soaked areas in the Portes Du Soleil – often you can find yourself basking in the early morning sunshine. Be careful as Morgins is one of the most exposed areas in the PDS and is very susceptible to avalanche slips.

Skiing Experience

For a relatively small area, Morgins packs a punch with its diverse range of skiing options. The resort is primarily known for its large, open faces and some of the best wide groomers in the Portes du Soleil. These expansive runs are perfect for carving and enjoying the smooth, well-maintained pistes. One of the highlights is the run accessible via the Foilleuse chairlift. Once you reach the top, head over the back to discover a plethora of adequately steep red and blue runs. These slopes are ideal for skiers looking to practice their carving technique while enjoying the stunning alpine scenery.

If you’re seeking a different kind of adventure, head up the Corbeau chairlift towards Châtel. This area offers some of the best tree skiing runs in Europe, providing a thrilling and immersive experience as you navigate through the dense forest. The tree runs are particularly exciting and offer a unique challenge compared to the open faces on the other side of the resort. However, it’s crucial to keep an eye on the weather conditions. Poor visibility or lack of snowfall can make it difficult to return to Morgins, so always stay informed about the weather forecast before setting out.

Morgins’ charm lies in its ability to offer a wide variety of skiing experiences within a compact area. Whether you prefer the wide, open groomers or the technical tree skiing runs, Morgins caters to all types of skiers. The combination of steep reds and blues, along with the exciting off-piste options, ensures that every day on the slopes can be different and exhilarating. So, for those looking to explore beyond the main hubs of the Portes du Soleil, Morgins provides an unforgettable skiing experience that showcases the best of both open and forested terrains.

Beyond the Slopes

Morgins offers a variety of unique experiences that are sure to blow you away. One of the must-try activities is snow-karting, available during the winter season. This thrilling activity lets you drift your way to victory against friends, providing an adrenaline-pumping adventure that’s both fun and competitive. The snow-karting tracks are well-maintained and offer a unique twist on traditional winter sports, making it a fantastic addition to your winter itinerary.

The community spirit in Morgins is another highlight. The village boasts an amazing community of people who organize a weekly “snow football” match. This fun and lively event involves locals and visitors alike throwing themselves into the snow, laughing, and creating lasting memories. It’s a great way to meet new people and experience the camaraderie that defines Morgins. The friendly atmosphere extends to the local dining and nightlife scene. Be sure to visit La Pive, a cozy restaurant known for its delicious Swiss cuisine and warm ambiance, perfect for a hearty meal after a day in the snow. For a more casual setting, try Café le Rétro, which offers a relaxed vibe and a great selection of drinks.

In addition to these activities, Morgins also has an expansive set of snowshoeing trails located in and around the resort. These trails allow you to explore untapped winter landscapes and stunning scenery at your own pace. Whether you’re trekking through dense forests or across open fields, the snowshoeing paths offer a peaceful escape into nature. For those looking to unwind after a day of adventure, Bar des Neiges is a popular spot to grab a drink and enjoy the lively atmosphere. The bar often features live music and is a great place to socialize with both locals and fellow travelers.
