Meribel is a charming luxury resort found in the Savoie region of the French Alps. The resort is located in the Tarentaise Valley and is part of Les Trois Vallees ski region, giving seasonaires access to over 600 kilometres of breathtaking slopes. The resort is known for its lively apres scene and unparalleled access to the ski region, which makes for a perfect blend for seasonaires seeking a quintessential alpine experience.
Skiing Experience
Meribel sits right in the heart of ‘Les Trois Valleys’ and offers some of the most diverse skiing across the alps. Whether you’re practicing those parallel turns in the Altiport area or ripping the steeps of the couloir Tournier – Meribel covers all bases. There are plenty of tree-covered green runs which provide a great place to practice those basic skills whilst soaking in the amazing surrounding landscape. Progress to some of the steeper well groomed blues and reds which really allow you to build your understanding for your fundamentals that will really help you get to the next level.
Want something more challenging then be sure to check out the Mont Du Vallon – the areas steepest and most challenging freeride area. With the lift summit just scraping 3000m this will literally take your breath away! But, if you are able to negotiate a tricky entrance into some of the bowls then you’re in for one of the runs of your life. You will definitely be in need of a good rest before exploring any other areas.
If you just fancy ripping some groomers at the end of the day in the beaming sunshine then Tougnete or Mont de la Challe are must visits. They provide adequately steep runs where you can get the MPH’s up but wide enough to really push those edges, making wide turns as you meander the surrounding valleys. If these don’t satisfy then make sure to take the lifts over to explore Courcheval or Val Thorens for some more dreamy groomers. Make sure to not leave it too late coming back, especially from Courcheval as the return journey meanders through a relatively narrow blue back which can easily get crowded.
Beyond the Slopes
Méribel’s après-ski scene is legendary, boasting a variety of bars and venues where seasonaires can unwind and socialize after a day on the mountain. Le Rond Point, affectionately known as the “Ronnie,” is a must-visit with its live music, vibrant atmosphere, and sun-drenched terrace offering stunning mountain views. Don’t forget to check out Ronnie’s unique way of reaching the toilet?! In fact, they have built a slide from the main terrace to the downstairs area (as well as a normal set of stairs) which is designed for kids but enjoyed by all. Just make sure its not covered in ice or you’ll end up in the women’s toilets. For a cozy après-ski experience, La Folie Douce Méribel is the place to be, combining live music, DJs, and an electric atmosphere amidst the alpine scenery. La Folie Douce often houses some big names as they tour the many resorts across the alps, so always keep your eyes peeled to see who’s coming.
Merbiel Village is split up into 3 sections: Meribel Village, Meribel and Meribel Motteret. Motteret is actually located on the slopes where all the slopes leading to Meribel convene. It provides a unique ‘car-less’ atmosphere which is extremely quaint and typically French. It also means that you can gain direct access some of the cool spots on the slopes. But the majority of the scene is down in Meribel 1650. This is where you’ll find the majority of accommodation and therefore the majority of people. They are all linked together by numerous chairs and gondolas which results in easy transport between the places. Added to this a free to use bus system creates a free flowing resort with an abundance of options. Le Lodge du Village offers a chic ambiance with craft cocktails and gourmet bites, perfect for indulging in après-ski luxury. With its lively après-ski options and unparalleled mountain setting, Méribel promises a winter season filled with excitement, camaraderie, and unforgettable memories.
