Champery is a quaint Swiss town that really encapsulates the typical chocolate box town. Champery is the easiest resort on the Swiss side of the Portes Du Soleil. However, this ease of access is due to its lack of altitude – Champery sits at 1037m meaning there often aren’t accessible skiing back to the village.

Beyond the Slopes

Champery is one of the hidden gems in the Portes du Soleil, offering some of the most technical and advanced skiing in the area. When there’s good snow coverage, Champery truly shines with its challenging terrain. The resort is renowned for its sun-soaked off-piste open faces at higher altitudes, providing breathtaking views of the spectacular Dents du Midi. These open faces offer thrilling descents that are perfect for experienced skiers looking to test their skills. Additionally, Champery’s tight and technical tree skiing down into the village adds a unique challenge and a beautiful, scenic route.

Some of the best runs in Champery include the Swiss Wall (Le Mur Suisse), which is notorious for its steep and mogul-covered slope that demands precision and skill. Another standout is the Grand Paradis, a long and varied run that provides both challenging sections and stunning views. For those who enjoy off-piste skiing, the areas around Pointe de l’Au and the Pas de Chavanette offer fantastic opportunities to carve fresh tracks in deep powder. These runs highlight the diversity and technical nature of Champery’s skiing, making it a favorite among advanced skiers.

Champery is also well-connected to the rest of the Portes du Soleil, allowing skiers to explore over 600 km of diverse terrain. This extensive network ensures that you won’t run out of areas to explore, whether you’re seeking gentle slopes or more demanding runs. The resort’s connection to such a vast ski area means that every day can bring a new adventure, with endless possibilities for discovering different landscapes and challenges. With its combination of technical terrain, stunning scenery, and extensive connections, Champery offers an exceptional skiing experience that stands out in the Portes du Soleil.

Skiing Experience

Champery isn’t just about epic skiing; it’s packed with awesome winter activities that make it a perfect spot for anyone, especially if you’re looking for some unique experiences. Try dog sledding through snowy forest trails – it’s a total must-try. Another cool activity to dive into is curling. Champery has one of the largest curling rinks around, so grab some friends and give this unique sport a go. It’s not something you find everywhere, so it’s a great way to mix up your winter routine.

After burning those legs on the slopes all day, check out the Thermes Parc Spa. This place is right at the base of the slopes and is perfect for chilling out and recovering. With thermal baths, saunas, and all kinds of wellness treatments, it’s the ultimate spot to relax and recharge. Soaking in hot springs surrounded by the mountain backdrop – it’s pure bliss and the perfect way to unwind after a big day.

When it comes to food and nightlife, Champery’s really excels. Be sure to try some authentic Savoyard Swiss food spots to try out local favorites like fondue – perfect for those cold nights. And if you’re looking to party, there are plenty of bars and clubs to fit every vibe. Whether you want to start your night with a chill drink at a cozy bar or dance until dawn at a lively nightclub, Champery’s nightlife won’t disappoint. So, whether you’re hitting the spa, trying new sports, or enjoying the local scene, Champery offers a winter experience that’s anything but ordinary.

Ripaille - Grand Paradis

This run pairs idyllic scenery with difficult technical skiing. Bring your camera and strap those boots tight because you’re in for one of the highlights of the Portes Du Soleil. (Be careful as this run does end around 1050m so it’s very snow dependant)
